Yeah, I was going to reward myself with a bottle of Creed Original Vetiver once the new book was done, especially considering that I bought the Creed bois du portugal a few days ago. I gave in and sent someone to pick up a bottle for me since I can’t drive down to Hall’s myself due to work I need to get done on the manuscript. I figured it’s only another $237 after tax or whatever it was. That means I’ve only spent $500 or $600 on fragrances in the past few days and I hardly ever do it.
Instead, I am going to work toward the Royal Water fragrance by Creed or, if I receive a sample of the new vanilla, perhaps it.
Please recognize that I realize this sets a terrible example because you shouldn’t acquire the “payoff” item unless you have already completed the task you gave yourself. I hardly ever give in and buy the reward before the prize itself but I’m moving the target. Why? Because I have a track record, I always get what I want done, and there is no doubt the book will be finished. Besides, I can afford it so this is really a case of the guilt comparable to someone having a second piece of apple pie or blueberry cobbler when they are supposed to be getting in shape. I mean, if I wanted to I could go down and buy the entire counter.
Perhaps I should just start budgeting in a regular wardrobe allowance each month. It is probably time but I just can’t bear to take a salary from any of the operating companies. I like living well but frugally. It brings me intellectual joy to watch my capital grow. It’s just that I’m getting older and at some point, I’m going to want to use some of the “chips” I’ve been building up since elementary school.
I believe in being intellectually honest. I had to update everyone to know the rules had changed, in part, to keep myself accountable. What can I say? I’m human.
