Since the blog became popular, a significant minority of readers have been sending gifts to me along with amazing notes about how my writings have helped them get out of debt, turn their life around, start their own business, or retire comfortably. Although it is a pleasant surprise (no matter how successful you are, opening a package to find a $300 bottle of cologne or a $25 personal check with a “Thank You” card is still awesome because it is unexpected), it makes me uncomfortable because I write to help people, not in the expectation they will give me something I can easily afford to buy myself. Plus, I’m more comfortable being the one giving rather than receiving.
Though it is a bit … weird … for me to accept things, I’m giving into the suggestion to create an Amazon Wish List. That way, if someone does send a gift, they can be sure it is something useful to me. Anything bought from the registry will be shipped to my office and then forwarded to me. Please make sure to include a gift note with address so I can personally send a thank you acknowledgment. You can view the Amazon Wish List directly by clicking here.
