Thierry Mugler, I Love You

Thierry Mugler Scarlet Velvet Suit Look No. 8

Designer Thierry Mugler unvieled the 2010 winter men's collection and I am seriously considering spending a couple grand and buying the tailored red suit (ref: Look No. 8 - Young American).  I mean, the fact that it isn't conservative: Who's going to be stupid enough to say anything to me about it?  I don't work for anyone and can wear whatever the hell I want.  (Although ... wait ... this could be like that tie I wore freshman year that Jocelyn hated so much she refused to speak to me … [Read more...]

Spring Has Sprung

Two to Three Weeks Ago

Here is the view from my window 2-3 weeks ago, when Jocelyn visited, and today.  It is amazing the difference 14 to 21 days can make in the world. … [Read more...]

I’m Working on a New Book

Finance Book

I turn down several book contracts a year and have for probably the past 5 or 6 years.  Despite having one of the largest investing audiences online, other than my Penguin book contract in 2006, I avoid the commitments because I don't like being tied to deadlines (even though I tend to work faster than most other people - it's just something about having control over my own time). However, I have been working on some ideas for a series of books that cover everything from finance (how to … [Read more...]

Four New 64 Gigabyte iPads for the Business!

IPad for Business Review

After dropping Jocelyn off at the airport yesterday morning, Aaron and I went to Barnes & Noble to get a range of additional business books. We then returned home, Aaron decided to go to his parents' house and paint Easter eggs with his nephew and mom. A series of events then lead to my parents and I driving to the Apple store in the Country Club Plaza in Kansas City, buying four (4) new 64 Gigabyte iPads with matching leather cases, as well as a new 32 gigabyte iPhone for my mom. The … [Read more...]

White Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies with Cranberries and Cherries

White Chocolate Oatmeal Cookies with Cranberries

As part of their plan to completely derail all dietary restraint, Jocelyn and Aaron plotted against me today.  The result was the baking of two distinct styles of delicious cookies; one a white chocolate oatmeal cookie with cranberries and the other a white chocolate oatmeal cookie with cherries. Here are some more pictures of the white chocolate oatmeal cookies ... … [Read more...]

Fresh Salmon with a Tomato Bruschetta on a Bed of Orzo Pasta with a Tasty Reduction

Fresh Salmon with Tomato Bruschetta on Pasta

Aaron and I got to be the lucky recipients of an original recipe creation by Jocelyn tonight.  The amazing thing was, each serving had only 500 calories after measuring the ingredients and portion sizes.  It was refreshingly light yet satisfying, which is a difficult combination to achieve.  Between Ruth's Chris Steakhouse last night, the Julia Child recipes that are bound to be cooked up this week (entirely new, of course ... we are ready to experiment beyond our usual favorites), and these … [Read more...]

Dinner at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse with Jocelyn and Aaron

Fresh Salad with Walnut from Ruth's Chris Steakhouse

Jocelyn came to visit Aaron and me!  After picking her up from the airport in Kansas City, we headed to a nearby Ruth's Chris Steakhouse because we wanted something good and it was unquestionably worth it.  I had read their annual report a few years ago and wanted to experience the food for myself.  I have never bought any shares but at least I understand the company better. The thing that made me happiest is that 1.) it's not the type of place you're going to run into a lot of so-called … [Read more...]
