Joshua Kennon Site Income Demographics 2013
Kennon-Green & Co. Global Asset Management, Wealth Management, Investment Advisory, and Value Investing

With another six months of data, the demographic story on who you, the readers, are is becoming clearer than it was with the preliminary numbers published back in February.  (Too bad this isn’t a television show.  With numbers like this, I’d be running a major network.)

You are far more interested in the following topics than the general public:

  • Science
  • Nature
  • Technology
  • Banking
  • Online Trading
  • Books
  • Home Decor
  • Universities
  • Religion
  • Travel
  • Non-Profits
  • Gardening
  • Automobiles
  • Parenting

The last one is very interesting because you are much less likely than people your age to have children, yet are very interested in parenting topics.  Looking through some of the other data points, this leads to the same conclusion as six months ago – you are much more likely, as a group, to put off the age at which you have your first child, and be the type that reads and studies parenting techniques, works to get them in the best school, setup a trust fund for them, and take them to piano lessons.  Thus, you have fewer children, later, but they are going to be the types that grow up with chemistry sets and being sent off to summer camp for some specialty obsession they have.

Also interesting:

  • 65.2% of you prefer to read the site from a desktop or notebook computer
  • 12.5% prefer a tablet, with the iPad dominating as the primary operating system
  • 22.3% of you prefer to read on a mobile phone, with the iOS beating Android by nearly 7-1

When it comes to desktop operating systems:

  • 30% of you prefer Windows 7
  • 15% of you prefer Mac
  • 8.5% of you prefer Windows XP
  • 4% of you prefer Windows
  • 1.3% of you prefer Linux
  • 0.3% of you prefer Ubuntu
  • The rest of you are an odd mix of Windows Server, Chrome OS, PlaySation 3, debian, fedora

Two of you – yes, two – are still using Windows 98.  It’s time to give up the ghost.

The most popular resolutions are 1366×768 and 768×1024, which, combined, make up roughly 21% of the site visits.  I prefer the extreme resolution HD monitors so my choice, 2560×1600, only has 0.10% of site visits.  We are a small club.

The most popular cities are:

  • New York (USA)
  • London (UK)
  • Ottawa (CA)
  • Singapore (PH)
  • Chicago (USA)
  • Toronto (CA)
  • Houston (USA)
  • Los Angeles (USA)
  • Washington (USA)
  • San Francisco (USA)
  • Seattle (USA)
  • Brooklyn (USA)
  • San Diego (USA)
  • Dallas (USA)
  • Denver (USA)
  • Atlanta (USA)
  • Mumbai (IO)
  • Minneapolis (USA)
  • Moscow (RU)

There’s a lot more but … uh … I am going to … whatever.  Listen.  I’ll just admit it.  I’m playing Tales of Xillia during work today.  I have the time scheduled in and I’m in the flying fortress so that’s all you get for now because lunch is on its way and I want to get back to the game.
