After graduating from college, Aaron and I have regularly visited and vacationed with our close friends as a way to keep in touch. There are many times this included 1,000+ miles road trips and weekend home stay, and other times, visits to theme parks, such as Cedar Point, the North American roller coaster capital. In the case of Ashly and Ian, we have tried to visit each other at least once every six months, no matter how far apart we lived.
These trips are hardly ever discussed on the blog or even mentioned to people in real life for privacy reasons (most of the time, we just disappear on a trip and no one but family or close friends know we’ve been gone) but this time around, I am posting pictures from my MacBook as I vacation because we decided to spend 6 days and 5 nights at the Walt Disney World resort in Orlando, Florida, and I have a three-year-old niece who wants to see as many pictures as possible of the place where the Princesses (Aurora, Jasmine, Belle, Snow White, Cinderella) live. As a promise to her, regular updates are going online so she can see our adventure. I’m even attending a Princess Breakfast with a group of children specifically to get pictures of the Princesses for said niece, which is not, shall we say, my usual scene. But I’m excited about it because I know how happy it will make her.
We left for the airport at 3 a.m. and arrived in time to check in to our flight, board, and make our way to Walt Disney World. My grandma and mom were gracious enough to take us so I didn't have to deal with parking or hiring a car.
My grandma Ruby and my mom dropped Aaron and me off at the airport to catch our flight to Orlando.
We had a brief layover in St. Louis. We took off before dawn and as the sun rose, I took a picture from the plane. I read a book on applied psychology and economics.
We got off the plane at St. Louis, made the transfer to the new flight to Orlando, and boarded. At the time, we got a call from Ashly and Ian, who had been trapped in their plane for 3.5 hours after being grounded for fog. They didn't know what time they would arrive at the resort but promised to keep us updated.
We landed in Orlando, Florida, made our way through the concourse, and to the Disney Ground Transportation terminal.
We loaded the Walt Disney World bus to our resort ...
It took 30 to 45 minutes but we finally saw the Walt Disney World welcome arch, meaning we had arrived.
The lobby of the Jambo House at the Walt Disney World Animal Kingdom Resort was very cool. The pictures don't do it justice.
We checked into the hotel. This was the view from the balcony of my room, which was right off the lobby.
The room was nice ... again, the pictures don't really do the resort justice.
The bathroom of the room at Walt Disney World.
We heard from Ashly and Ian. They have been re-routed to Charlotte, North Carolina, and will finally make it to Orlando, Florida, by 7 or 8 p.m. tonight. Aaron and I are here and it is only 2 p.m. in the afternoon so we have a lot of time. We’re going to head toward Downtown Disney to look at the shops.
