After my mom, dad, and youngest sister stopped by this afternoon for banana birthday cake, my brother and, later, my sister-in-law, came over for dinner.  We ended up opting for Swedish meatballs with lingonberry sauce and chunky red potatoes, while Tara, Aaron, and I caught up on last night’s episode of Breaking Bad, which none of us had seen.  My brother, who is obsessed with the show and was all up for watching it again, worked on his medical school interview and / or Spanish homework in the background.  He kept telling us to be prepared for this episode.  Despite those warnings, I don’t think any of us were ready for destruction that was wrought in the desert.  If you’ve seen all of the seasons up to that point, the payoff was probably the single best hour of drama that has ever been shown.  The quality of storytelling is just superb.

I am throwing in the work towel and just going to play games or read all night.  I don’t even think I’ll go running; I’ll do it all tomorrow.  I feel shell shocked after that episode.  Can we just wrap up the Emmy’s this year and give the cast and crew of Breaking Bad everything, across the board, in all categories?  This is the greatest tale of moral degradation I’ve ever read or watched, in any format.  We are watching the total and complete collapse of an accidental empire.
