Ashly and Ian arrived safely in Orlando! Woo hoo! Although it was a tough journey for them after the crazy plane re-routes and fog landings, we were able to keep our dinner reservations at Jiko, a restaurant featuring upscale African, Indian and Mediterranean cuisine.
The blog has quite a few foodies and we eat very, very well so I’m going to include notes and reviews of the restaurants for my own convenience to make it easier to recall exactly how I felt about each establishment for reference the next time we visit Walt Disney World. Those of you who don’t care about gourmet food won’t find this interesting but those of you who do will be inspired; we certainly were.
Appetizers at Jiko in the Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World

For his Jiko appetizer, Aaron had grilled wild boar tenderloin with Mealie Pap, Chakalaka, White Truffle Oil, and Micro Cilantro.

My Jiko appetizer was a Brentwood Creamy Corn Soup with Jumbo Lump Crab, Crushed Avocado, Corn, and Sweet Chili Sour Cream. It was fantastic.

Ashly ordered the Bobotie as her appetizer. It is a crispy beef roll with cucumber raita, green mango attar, and honey roasted groundnuts.

Ian ordered the Mitmita Spiced Ahi Tuna Tataki with Hearts of Palm Salad, Avocado, and Peppadew Cilantro Vinaigrette as his appetizer.
Main Courses at Jiko in the Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World
As for main courses, following a day of travel, the selection was heavy on fine cuts of meat.

I ordered the Oak Grilled Filet Mignon with Sweet Corn Risotto, Roasted Mushrooms and South African Cabernet Reduction.

Aaron ordered the Filet Mignot but on a bed of truffle mac & cheese, which had been on the Jiko menu for years but taken off recently.

Ashly ordered the Braised Beef Short Rib with Truffled Potato Puree, Pearl Onions, Baby Carrots, and Cabernet-Tamarind Sauce.

Ian ordered the Seared Barbie Duck Breast with Potato and Spinach Masala, royal Trumpet Mushrooms, and Port Emulsion.
Dessert at Jiko in the Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World
For dessert, we went somewhat classic, not venturing too far out of the box. All of us were very satisfied.

Both Ashly and Aaron ordered the Jiko Chocolate Three Ways dessert, featuring a rich chocolate mouse or cheesecake drizzled in chocolate.
Value for the Money and Review
Including tip and tax, dinner at Jiko was around $330.00 for the four of us. Overall, I’d say it was worth it. The service was good, the food was interesting, and it was a great start to our resort adventure.
