Date Night at Carthay Circle Restaurant in Disneyland California Adventure
In the time we’ve lived in Southern California, we have only had occasion to use our Disneyland Annual Passports a couple of times. On that list: when Aaron’s mom came to visit, she spent two days in the park (the first day the three of us went to the Magic Kingdom and the second day, she and Aaron went to California Adventure while I stayed at work and ran the firm because I had a bunch I needed to get done.) Add another to that list: Aaron booked a date night for us at the Carthay Circle restaurant. I’m so glad he did because it was a great experience not only because the food was great, but because we weren’t sure what the calories were going to be so we ended up starving ourselves most of the day so we could actually enjoy it. They had this non-alcoholic dessert drink based on a key lime pie that was one of the best things I’ve ever had in my life. I need the recipe. Just typing this now makes me want to rearrange my week to go back and get another one so if you’re there, and you like key lime pie, get it. Just trust me and get it.
We started with that and a salad that had fried pears and, I believe, breaded mozzarella cheese.
The main dish was a fantastic cut of beef in a Korean red pepper glaze.
Dessert was … I think maybe a bread pudding? I can’t quite remember but it was drizzled in a caramel sauce with fresh cream, pineapple, and raspberries.
And on a personal note, when I think back to the first trip I took to Disneyland in 1995 and now see the stores proudly selling Mickey Ears for LGBT families in major end-cap displays, and how much the world has changed in those 24 years, I am both blown away with disbelief and humbled with gratitude. I feel so lucky to be alive, right now, in the United States at this time.
It’s amazing how much our lives have changes since only a few years ago, when I last posted about eating at Carthay Circle.
