Anyway, she sent me a message earlier this morning at 9:56 a.m. before the Supreme Court opened for the day because Obergefell v. Hodges will be heard and crowds have already gathered. It is the case that will determine the course of civil rights laws for people like Aaron and I for the foreseeable future.

I cannot overstate how nearly every facet of my life from childhood until now, dozens of times a day, has been harmed or made more complicated by the government and society treating me differently than my family, friends, and peers. The idea that I could be dying in a hospital bed and some random nurse decide that my husband, Aaron, should denied entry despite having been at my side since we were teenagers doesn’t just upset me, it fills me with rage.
No matter the outcome of the case, we won’t stop. This will never end because for people like me, it touches every corner of our lives from property holdings, bank accounts, business formation, and health insurance to inheritance, taxes, parental rights … the list goes on and on. We simply care more than the opposition and no matter how many times we are denied, we will keep pounding on the door until it crashes inward and the government is stripped of its ability to try to dictate and order our lives.
